The fourth-generation plumber said the job takes a strong nose and a sense of humor.

I’m a licensed journeyman. I took four years of school plus another year for a master’s and courses on high-pressure steam. It’s two nights a week with the local union up in Rochester.

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure this job out. We pump the toilet out with a hose and then take a pressure washer to it. ... We wipe it down and pump back in five gallons of fresh water and add this blue chemical. We also check the toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
